Vimeo Launches New AI Tools, Including an OpenAI-Powered Script Generator for Rapid Video Production
Video platform Vimeo is taking a bold leap into the future by introducing new AI tools for its paying customers. These include an AI script generation feature powered by OpenAI’s technology. Vimeo pitches these tools as a quick and efficient solution for users to "create a fully produced video in minutes." They highlight the potential uses for corporate customers, which range from creating highlight reels, hosting virtual events or company meetings, to generating quote clips for short marketing videos.
Three main features headline this exciting development. First up is a script generator, designed to create scripts based on a brief description and key inputs like tone and length. The second is a teleprompter, a user-friendly tool that, while not AI-based, allows users to adjust timing and font size. Lastly, the suite features a text-based video editor that can automatically identify and cut out "filler words, long pauses, and awkward moments" with a single click. Users subscribing to Vimeo’s “standard plan” and higher, starting at $20 a month, can expect to have access to these tools from July onwards.
While these tools sound promising, the effectiveness of the most crucial among them, the script generator, is yet to be tested. There may be potential limitations, like the system's understanding of new product or service information. The extent of editing required to ensure the generated script's accuracy is currently unknown. However, OpenAI tools such as ChatGPT have shown proficiency in producing generic corporate marketing content, and this could save valuable time for some users.
Vimeo envisions these new features to solidify its role as an “all-in-one resource for video production.” Despite initial ambitions to rival YouTube as a creative video host, Vimeo has since refocused on corporate customers. By bundling production tools with hosting costs, Vimeo aims to enhance its value proposition to this target audience.
